Choosing to attend college is one of the most important decisions facing young students. Our mission is to help students make the best decisions about college while guiding their self discovery and building confidence. Each student is treated as an individual and given the attention and advice they deserve. While no one can guarantee admission to college, I can assure that each student will become the most competitive and well prepared candidate possible.

Each student develops a list of colleges that are the best potential fit. As we work together, we unravel goals and create a compelling story for each college essay. For many, this can be a complex and daunting process but I work with each student at their own pace and aim to make the process stress-free, fulfilling, and even fun.

BK College Consulting isn’t your typical, profit-driven, counseling service. We provide friendly, caring, and customized counseling to each individual student. All services are provided personally by Brian, ensuring confidentiality and continuity of service.

I hope you’ll get in touch for a free initial consult!

Testimonials

We were so grateful to hand over the controls to Brian and our son while we remained supportive from a distance!

Our son took some time before he decided he wanted to go to college. Brian, knew just how to approach him when he was ready.

Brian was like the teen whisperer. He helped build confidence and demystified the entire application, interview and audition process. We can't thank him enough!

Hi - I’m Brian!

After completing my Masters of Education degree in Higher Education Administration, I served as Director of Internships at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.

Most recently, I worked as Associate Academic Advisor for the University Honors Program at the U of MN Twin Cities. In this role, I worked with high achieving undergraduates in the Carlson School of Management and students in all majors across the College of Liberal Arts.

I held this position for ten years and gained experience managing a college-wide program, collaborating with faculty, and working with students from all majors and backgrounds. I offered academic, career, and personal counseling to students at all stages of the college experience.

In addition, I have conducted internship site visits across all career fields and developed a reflection model to help students make better informed career planning choices.

I have knowledge of virtually every college major and a vast knowledge of the multiple career options available to students. I have taught courses ranging from “how to choose a college major” to “how to write a senior honors thesis” and, while I am comfortable working with students interested in all majors, I most enjoy counseling students seeking degrees in fine arts, humanities, social sciences, and business.

Above all, I enjoy working with students and feel it is a privilege to be part of the college consulting process.  When managed correctly, the college search process should be an exciting learning process that opens new doors, rather than an experience that creates stress or frustration.

I also enjoy coaching, and gained expertise coaching student athletes on the Gustavus Track and Field and Nordic Ski teams.

I continue to coach student athletes with the Loppet Foundation based out of the Trailhead complex in Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.

I was born and raised in Oshkosh, WI and I love the outdoors, competitive cycling and Nordic skiing.

I attended Lawrence University, in Appleton, WI and received my Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence Conservatory of Music in 1990.
